Even politicians can’t resist some light-hearted rivalry ribbing.

University of Florida grad Marco Rubio, a state senator and 2016 presidential candidate from the Sunshine State, took to the airwaves Monday morning via KXNO 1460 AM out of Iowa to discuss a variety of policy-related topics.

He then abruptly jabbed Florida State.

“I don’t have anything against Florida State,” Rubio said. “I think there has to be a school where people who can’t get into Florida can go to college.”

Zing!

When someone prefaces their next thought with “I don’t have anything against … “, prepare for the uppercut.

Rubio went even further and said he would pull for another team in Florida before those hated Seminoles in Tallahassee.

“I grew up in Miami, I’m a Gator fan, but I don’t root against the Hurricanes,” Rubio told the radio station. “When they play Florida State, it isn’t hard for me to root against Florida State.”

So much for winning any votes in the Panhandle.

Update: Florida State’s president responded to Rubio.
