Nothing sets off the coaching rumor mill like a Sunday morning firing.

That fate befell Fresno State coach Tim DeRuyter earlier today, and the ripple effects are spreading throughout the college football landscape. In fact, one SEC coordinator is being mentioned as a potential candidate to take over the Bulldogs’ program.

Nussmeier has served as offensive coordinator at five different schools since 2008, starting with a one-year stint at Fresno State that very year. He made stops at Washington, Alabama and Michigan before joining Jim McElwain’s staff at Florida in 2015.

The Gators rank 60th in FBS with 30.3 points per game this season after finishing 100th last season with 23.2 points per game.

Nussmeier isn’t the only SEC coordinator who has been mentioned in Fresno State coaching rumors. Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, a Fresno State alum, is also a potential candidate.
