Herschel Walker, arguably the best running back in the history of the SEC, thinks he’s still got what it takes to suit up on a part-time basis and contribute to an NFL team – despite being 54-years old.

With Walker currently training to fight his next match in the UFC, the confidence level of his abilities remains as high as ever.

“I don’t think I can. I know I can,” Walker said of playing in the NFL, according to Ron Clements of Omnisport/Sporting News. “In a third-down situation, I could help a team out today. I could do a few things and do it well.”

The former Georgia standout running back competed in the USFL after leaving Athens and ultimately transitioned into the NFL in 1986. Walker played in the NFL until 1997 and rushed for 8,225 yards and 61 touchdowns in his pro career.

According to Walker, the NFL game was tougher on running backs in his day.

“They don’t take as many hits as we were taking,” Walker said.

One thing is for certain, any doubters Walker has had in his life have been silenced a long time ago. If the phone with an NFL team on the other line, don’t put it past the physical specimen that is Herschel Walker to suit up on Sundays this fall.
