Aaron Murray likes what he is seeing from the Bulldogs under head coach Kirby Smart.

The former Georgia QB certainly knows a thing or two about playing in the SEC. Murray played at Georgia from 2010-13 and almost led the Bulldogs to the SEC Championship over Alabama in 2012.

Murray finished his career as Georgia’s all-time leader in passing yards (13,166) and touchdowns (121) and recorded at least 3,000 yards passing in every season with the Bulldogs.

Murray has since moved on to a job as an analyst with CBS, and he definitely sees a different mindset with the Bulldogs under Smart than he experienced during Mark Richt’s tenure. He believes Smart has already instilled an Alabama-type mentality in the Bulldogs which has made a huge difference.

Jimmy Hyams with Gridiron Now shared Murray’s comments:

“I think the main difference right now is the mentality that Kirby has brought,” Murray said. “It’s the mentality that Alabama has where they walk into every game and they know they are going to win. That’s already a `W’ in the win column in the mental state of the game, where they’re not walking in scared.”

Murray went on to say that the Bulldogs seemed to believe that every SEC game would be close during his career:

“You kind of psych yourself out that it’s going to be close, that it is going to come down to the wire,” Murray said.

Georgia did struggle a bit with a 4-4 SEC record and multiple close games during Smart’s first season in Athens, but the Bulldogs are playing with a different edge in 2017. Georgia’s closest margin of victory in an SEC game so far this season is 25.

Georgia is off this weekend, but the Bulldogs will look to keep that dominant mentality going next weekend against Florida. Kickoff for next Saturday is set for 3:30 pm EST on CBS.
