NFL teams (and analysts for that matter) are focused on the 2019 draft, which is next week in Nashville. Georgia QB Jake Fromm has a junior season ahead of him in Athens. But when Mel Kiper Jr. appeared on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” Sunday, he was asked to give some thoughts on 2020 prospects. On the subject of quarterbacks, Kiper shared his early thoughts on Fromm if he decides to declare for next year’s draft.

“Great touchdown-to-interception ratio, but he doesn’t have the elite arm strength,” Kiper said.

The “arm strength” knock would actually lead Kiper to compare Fromm to a future Hall of Famer.

“Will his arm get stronger as we move forward in his career into the NFL? Hopefully it will,” Kiper added. “My comp for him would be Drew Brees. Drew Brees’ arm got stronger once he got in the NFL with the Chargers and the Saints. Jake Fromm will probably go a little higher than that. He’ll be a first-round pick, but the arm strength is the only issue that could prevent him from going a little higher than maybe his press clippings indicate.”

The TD-to-INT ratio Kiper referenced is 54-to-13 through two seasons. In his sophomore season, Fromm improved that ratio (24-7 to 30-7) as well as completion percentage (62.2 to 67.4) and average yards per attempt (9.6 to 10.1).
