Despite the on-the-court success of the tennis program in Athens, some of the coaches surrounding the Georgia tennis program are reportedly in some hot water. In a bit of strange news Tuesday, two assistant coaches reportedly have been suspended in connection with an ongoing police investigation.

Adding another level to this mess, Georgia is hosting the NCAA Championships this week.

According to Marc Weiszer of the Athens-Banner Herald, men’s assistant coach Bo Hodge and women’s assistant head coach Drake Bernstein have both been suspended from their teams. At the center of the allegations appears to be the theft of prescription drugs. According to a campus police report, ‘individuals within the tennis program’ are suspected of having involvement:

“the possible theft and mishandling of prescription medication involving a number of individuals within the tennis program”

Police valued the stolen goods at $1,500, which makes this crime a felony. The alleged crime is reported to have taken place at the Georgia tennis complex.

Bernstein has been with Georgia’s women’s tennis team for four years. He was a member of Georgia’s 2008 national champion tennis team and was promoted to associate head coach in the summer of 2015. Hodge is in his second year on the staff with the men’s program. He was an All-American player for the team during his playing career.
