Devon Gales is going home.

The Southern player, paralyzed in a Sept. 26 game against Georgia, has been hospitalized ever since. Currently a resident at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, he’ll return to Louisiana for the first time since his injury.

Gales’ discharge date is Feb. 24, according to a report by DawgNation.com.

More good news from the report:

Georgia head athletic trainer Ron Courson, who visits Gales about once a week, said the player is “making progress every day.” He was recently able to stand, with support, for 15 seconds. And he’s having sensations in his lower body every now and then.

The former player is scheduled for a press conference in Athens on Feb. 25, the day after his release. He’ll also meet with the Georgia players.

He’ll then resume his studies at Southern and continue to get treatment while expecting to graduate in 2018.

Gales’ parents have been flying back and forth between Georgia and Louisiana, so the move will ease a burden on them as well.
