The Wildcats received some bad news on the recruiting front Wednesday when three-star DE James Hudson tweeted that he is backing off his verbal pledge to Kentucky.

The Central Catholic (Toledo, Ohio) defensive end says he is decommitting to enjoy the recruiting process. Hudson, who measures 6-foot-5, 280 pounds, made his last visit to Lexington on April 16. Since then, he has received offers from Miami and Alabama and visited Michigan.

Kentucky’s class remains ranked No. 14 overall and No. 4 in the SEC by 247Sports composite. Hudson was the lone strong-side defensive end in the class, but the Wildcats still have three-star weak-side defensive end Alex King pledged for 2017.
