Chip Trayanum is expected to play a big role for the Kentucky Wildcats in 2024. The former Arizona State and Ohio State running back transferred to Kentucky this offseason and should add a unique element to the Wildcats’ backfield. Unfortunately, Trayanum’s impact will not be felt in the SEC opener against South Carolina.

Mark Stoops said on his weekly radio show that Trayanum “definitely” will miss the Week 2 matchup.

It was reported just weeks before the season began that Trayanum broke his hand and was expected to be sidelined for 3-4 weeks, so this isn’t a huge surprise.

Still, Stoops would undoubtedly prefer to have Trayanum in the mix. The RB took 85 carries for 373 yards and 3 TDs in 2023 for the Buckeyes. Trayanum started his career at Arizona State, earning 691 rushing yards and 10 TDs over 13 games with the Sun Devils.

For the 2022 season, Trayanum transferred to Ohio State and would play in 23 games for the school over 2 seasons, racking up 465 rushing yards and 3 TDs.

Without Trayanum in Week 1, Demie Sumo-Karngbaye took 8 carries for 59 yards and 1 TD. True freshman Jason Patterson even got into the game, logging 4 carries for 28 yards against Southern Miss.

While the Wildcats rolled to an easy victory in Week 1, the challenge will be much tougher in Week 2. UK will open SEC play against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Lexington.
