Who better to coach your defensive backs than one of the best to ever play the position?

According to Jon Hale of the Louisville Courier-Journal, Kentucky reached out to Ed Reed to fill the void left by Derrick Ansley, who left the Wildcats to join Alabama’s staff.

Reed, according to the report, turned down the offer, and is happy in his current role as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Buffalo Bills.

Reed played his last college season at Miami under Kentucky coach Mark Stoops in 2001, the first of Stoops’ three seasons coaching defensive backs with the Hurricanes. Miami went undefeated (12-0) and won the national championship that season, defeating Nebraska 37-14 in the Rose Bowl.

The future NFL Hall of Famer was then drafted in the first round with the 24th overall pick in 2002 by the Baltimore Ravens. He reached nine Pro Bowls, was a five-time First-Team All-Pro selection and was Defensive Player of the Year in 2004.
