The Governor’s Cup had been sitting comfortably in Louisville for the past five seasons.

Wanting to change the narrative, the University of Kentucky had a plan to bring the trophy back to Lexington. On Saturday, the Wildcats succeeded in achieving this goal.

Kentucky defeated No.11 Louisville by a score of 41-38. Quarterback Stephen Johnson threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns, and led the team in rushing with 83 yards on the ground.

Kentucky (7-5) had lost five-straight meetings against the Cardinals. Louisville had been the dominant football program within the state for the last few years.

However, Mark Stoops and company finally got the breakthrough win it needed against the in-state rival.

The spirited celebrations after the game are most certainly warranted. Kentucky is going bowling, and has won the most games in a single season since 2009.

Perhaps most impressive, it forced Heisman Trophy candidate Lamar Jackson into committing four turnovers.
