The LSU Tigers have had struggles at the quarterback position for a long time now, but some of the numbers since 2005 are truly shocking.
Since Nick Saban left the program (briefly coaching the Miami Dolphins before ending up at Alabama), the Tigers have really struggled to hold onto the quarterbacks they recruit.
Former LSU beat writer and current Sports Illustrated reporter Ross Dellenger has been keeping track of LSU’s quarterback woes, and the numbers are truly astonishing. According to Dellenger, 14 of the 20 quarterbacks recruited to Baton Rouge since 2005 have been dismissed, left the program or switched positions, with nine having played exactly zero snaps at quarterback:
A year ago today, QB Lindsey Scott Jr. transferred from #LSU. With Lowell Narcisse out, the updated numbers (2005-17):
13 classes
20 QBs
4 completed career at LSU
14 dismissed/departed/switched pos
9 never played a single down https://t.co/QM2GKLEf0g— Ross Dellenger (@RossDellenger) August 15, 2018
On Tuesday, redshirt freshman Lowell Narcisse announced he was transferring from the program, so he becomes another statistic in the abysmal list above.
When recruiting against LSU, particularly when it comes to quarterbacks, other teams should simply show prospects this Dellenger tweet, as it doesn’t exactly instill a lot of confidence in the Tigers’ ability to develop quarterbacks.
