Jamal Adams, who had been mocked as high as No. 3 overall to the Chicago Bears, looked to be a steal when the New York Jets selected him at six. Now that camp has begun, the former Tiger is garnering rave reviews.

Amid a typically buttoned-up Todd Bowles press conference, the Jets’ head coach called Adams “very instinctive” but the real praise came from his new teammate and fellow LSU Tiger Morris Claiborne.

“The things he has done so far? He’s unbelievable,” Claiborne told NJ.com. “He’s been out here playing lights out. Picking up the defense, checking to different things, knowing what he wants to check to. He’s having fun doing it, too. His spirit is awesome. He’s having fun doing what he knows how to do, and that’s football. I can’t be more impressed with a young guy coming into the league, and, especially playing on that backend, doing the things he’s done so far.”

During his last season in Baton Rouge, Adams raised his already sky-high stock by staying healthy and collecting All-SEC first team and All-America second team honors at safety. His resume was enough for the Jets to make Adams the first DB off the board in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Still, anything said about a player by his teammates has to be taken with a grain of salt due to the usually sugar-coated nature of such quotes. The fact that Claiborne and Adams came from the same school only furthers that case.

Though contrived or not, it’s a safe bet that there will be many more statements like Claiborne’s on the way once Adams sees the field for real.
