A former high school tight end wants to give football another try in his final year of athletic eligibility at LSU.

Tigers basketball player Brian Bridgewater told reporters that he would like to make the switch from the hardwood to the gridiron after graduating in August.

“That’s a possibility, if things go according to how they’re supposed to,” Bridgewater said. “Hopefully that’s an option. If not I’ll have to see what door opens for me.”

Bridgewater currently measures 6-foot-5, 282 pounds. The Baton Rouge native last played football for Episcopal High School. Despite playing only one season of high school football, he was rated the No. 19 tight end of the 2013 class by the 247Sports Composite.

Andrew Lopez of The Times Picayune notes that Bridgewater trained alongside former Baylor basketball player Rico Gathers in 2016. Gathers was a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad last season.

The Tigers currently have Foster Moreau, Caleb Roddy, Jacory Washington and Jamal Pettigrew on roster at the position. Bridgewater says he has talked to football staffers, but not head coach Ed Orgeron.
