LSU defensive end Davon Godchaux will return to the team less than 48 hours after being suspended, interim coach Ed Orgeron revealed during the SEC teleconference Wednesday.

“He’s an excellent young man, he will return to the team,” Orgeron said. “We will review everything before making a final decision.”

Goxchaux was jailed on misdemeanor charges Monday following an argument with his girlfriend that led to both parties being arrested. Orgeron suspended the junior indefinitely from the team shortly after.

On Tuesday, East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore announced misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and battery/child endangerment and false imprisonment against Godchaux would be dropped because of inconsistent statements made by his girlfriend.

“We’re happy the charges have been dropped,” Orgeron said. “Davon is an excellent young man.

“He’ll return to the team today. We’ll take it day-by-day. We’ll make sure we have all of the information available before we make any other decisions, but he will be with the team today.”

Godcahux is fifth among LSU players with 20 tackles in 2016.
