LSU DE Lewis Neal could earn a large salary next season in the NFL, but he’s not exactly hurting for money in the meantime.

In a fascinating new feature by CampusSports.net’s Josh Sanchez, Neal discusses his lucrative hobby of day-trading on the Foreign Exchange market. Sanchez notes that Neal, a Sports Management major, makes four-to-five figures some weeks on ForEx day trades.

Finance is the focus of the article, but Neal did tell Sanchez how day-trading has benefitted him on the gridiron:

“It absolutely helps on the field. I know how to stay calm in certain situations and also how to stay disciplined in certain situations without trying to do too much or too little. It does help that I know how to control my mind.”

Balancing school, football and day-trading has also made Neal a master of time management:

“Now everything is rolling. I used to struggle with it at the beginning, but I just needed to make it a habit. Just like on the field, when you make good technique a habit you do it all the time. Once it becomes a habit, you’re just flowing,” he said.

“Once I was consistent with my schedule, it just became second nature. This was my schedule for the day: I trade, go to class and go to practice then repeat it.”

After his final season at LSU, Neal will likely be a high draft pick. Many analysts have Neal among the top 10 defensive ends available in next year’s draft.

Just remember, if you ask him about his stock, you’ll have to specify.
