Could LSU’s defense be getting a boost right before the start of fall camp?

According to a report by Ross Dellenger of The Advocate, former Tigers DL Travonte Valentine was back on campus Friday and met with coaches. The junior college transfer would be joining LSU for the second time in his college career.

The former four-star signee was originally a member of the 2014 class, but was dismissed from the team on July 15, 2015 after failing multiple drug tests and missing a significant amount of class time. He transferred to Arizona Western Community College and played in the first six games last season, but was kicked off the team after an Oct. 15 arrest for disorderly conduct, a case in which charges were later dropped. He then transferred to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.

A possible return to the Tigers made the news in May, with Valentine calling it a 50-50 chance.

The SEC has ruled that Valentine would be eligible to play this season if he qualifies academically. He would have three years of eligibility remaining and could be a potential contributor at nose tackle.
