LSU swiftly and effectively went from having an AD that the vast majority of its fans had no respect for to arguably the most well-respected AD in the country in a span of 48 hours. That move in of itself would have been impressive but the fact LSU managed to steal Scott Woodward from SEC West rival Texas A&M proved to be the cherry on top of the situation.

While Joe Alleva may have been an outsider that never quite fit in down in Baton Rouge, Woodward is a native of Baton Rouge, went to school at LSU and previously worked in the school’s athletic department before beginning his career as an athletic director at Washington.

Now that he’s officially been named the new AD at LSU, the school officially plans to introduce him on Tuesday, Woodward has begun to give interviews following his decision to leave Texas A&M. In an interview with Brody Miller of NOLA.com, Woodward was asked just what was it that LSU did to sell him on the job.

According to LSU’s new AD, the school didn’t have to make any type of sales pitch to the native Louisianan.

They didn’t have to sell me on anything. I know it well enough. I know what it’s about, and personally I know how it transformed my life. It’s just a special place, and it’s just a special opportunity.

Aside from the personal stuff, there’s no greater institution that means more to its state than Louisiana State University. It’s just that way, and I’ve always believed that. And now that I’ve had a chance to leave it and look outside it, institutions are important to their state, but boy when you have one that is so prominent and sticks out so much as one institution in a state — unlike a place like Alabama where you have Auburn and University of Alabama, or Georgia where you have Georgia and Georgia Tech — it’s a special, special, special relationship.

That’s the type of response LSU fans have got to love as Woodward directly points out an advantage his school has over its main competition in the SEC. Now that LSU has an AD that everyone can buy into, there’s no telling what the school can accomplish if Woodward manages to get everyone at the school on the same page and working together for the first time in years.
