Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Jacquies Smith went down in the first quarter of the team’s opening game against the Atlanta Falcons and nobody was sure exactly how serious it was. Smith, a former Missouri Tiger, was carted off the field.

According to sportstalkflorida.com, Smith suffered a torn ACL.

In regard to Smith, Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter said, “It’s big. It’s going to be tough, we’ve got to pick up the slack in other areas like I mentioned before. We’re going to be tested on our depth. We’ve been saying that we thought we had depth at the defensive line and this is going to test us right off the bat.”

The former undrafted free agent recorded 6.5 sacks in 2014 with the Buccaneers and then had seven sacks in 2015.
