Teetering on the brink of choosing another SEC program is four-star safety Jamal Peters, one of the defensive jewels in the 2015 class for Dan Mullen and Mississippi State.

The U.S. Army All-American told 247Sports’ Barton Simmons just before the dead period that he was ’75 percent committed’ to the Bulldogs. The chance at playing early and not being forced to redshirt was Mississippi State’s biggest draw.

“There’s a lot of schools still recruiting me, LSU, Bama, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, most of the schools that offered me,” Peters said.

Mississippi’s top-ranked defensive back committed to Bulldogs assistant coach Tony Hughes in July and has since been courted by Alabama’s Kirby Smart, Auburn’s Melvin Smith and Clemson’s Brent Venables.

The hard-hitting safety packs a punch at 6-foot-3, 200 pounds and brings much-needed muscle to a secondary in Starkville that gave up an SEC-worst 285.2 yards per game this season. Peters’ recruitment will heat up mid-January when he’s expected to take another visit within the SEC.

Ole Miss and LSU are reportedly recruiting Peters to play wide receiver.
