Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze announced defensive graduate assistant Christian Robinson will take over the as middle linebackers coach, a responsibility that was previously handled by defensive coordinator Dave Wommack.

“Christian Robinson is going to take the mike linebackers this week and coach them from this point forward,” Freeze said during his weekly press conference. “Dave will handle the stingers (outside linebackers) to try to get more attention to them in practice.

“There were times the fits (against the run) were good, but there’s still too many where it’s not. (We’re trying to) put another set of eyes on one position and try to help them improve this week, because again this week it we’ll be vitally important.”

Ole Miss allowed 200 rushing yards in its 34-30 loss to Arkansas last weekend. Razorbacks tailback Rawleigh Williams III recorded 180 rushing yards on 27 carries and was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week.

Ole Miss currently ranks No. 104 among FBS teams in rushing defense and has averaged 212.8 yards allowed per game.
