The Rebels are getting some help on the defensive line for 2017.

Former Syracuse DE Qaadir Sheppard announced Friday he will be transferring to Oxford. Ole Miss Spirit reporter Ben Garrett tweeted Sheppard’s announcement, which was originally posted on Instagram.

The former three-star recruit who currently measures 6-foot-3 and 247 pounds was the No. 4 prospect from New York according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Sheppard played in nine games as a true freshman recording one tackle and an interception, but was suspended for the final three games for reportedly failing a second drug test. Dino Babers, Syracuse’s new coach hired last December, dismissed Sheppard in February.

The suspension would have impacted Sheppard’s 2016 season, but will not have an affect on his ’17 eligibility with the Rebels.

Ole Miss signed three defensive ends as part of its ’16 recruiting class, ranked No. 6 nationally.
