The 247Sports Composite rankings go back to 2000. Rather than look at career five-star signees, we calculated how many five-star players every SEC coach has recruited at his current program.
Steve Spurrier, for example, signed three five-star players in 2000, his second-to-last season with the Gators, but has landed just two in eight recruiting classes at South Carolina (Marcus Lattimore, Jadeveon Clowney).
We also calculated how many five-star recruits each coach signs per season. By that measure, Florida coach Jim McElwain is off to a great start, averaging two per season, good for third in the conference behind Nick Saban (4.1) and Kevin Sumlin (2.3).
Gary Pinkel claimed his third five-star recruit in 14 seasons at Missouri in Terry Beckner Jr.
Alas, Saban has wracked up six five-star players in each of the last three seasons, according to the 247Sports Composite, more than any other current SEC coach in their entire tenure, with the exception of Mark Richt.
