Week 3 of ACC action is in the books.

Another week goes by and Miami still looks like the best team in the ACC by a good margin. The Hurricanes defeated Ball State 62-0 this week to move to 3-0 on the season.

It was a relatively-light week for the league, with only 12 teams in action. Some of the best teams in the ACC (Clemson and Louisville) were idle this week while others across the league were engaged in nonconference showdowns.

Here’s Saturday Down South’s updated Week 3 power rankings:

17. Wake Forest (Previously: 17)

Another big loss for Wake Forest this week, who fell 40-6 at home to Ole Miss. The Demon Deacons gave it their best shot but it wasn’t nearly enough.

16. Florida State (Previously: 16)

I seriously considered moving Florida State to last place in these power rankings, and I wouldn’t argue with you if you said that’s where it deserves to be. An improbable collapse from the Noles, who have clinched their season win total under by mid-September. Is losing to Memphis rock bottom? I’m not so sure that it is at this point. Of the 9 games left on Florida State’s schedule, 8 are against power-conference competition. The Noles are still 6 wins away from bowl eligibility. They’ll have to beat at least 2 of Clemson, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame or Florida to get there.

15. Stanford (Previously: 15)

Stanford was off this week.

14. Virginia (Previously: 12)

Virginia turned it over 4 times in a loss to Maryland on Saturday night. That’s a winnable game for Tony Elliott down the drain.

13. Duke (Previously: 14)

Solid win for Manny Diaz and the Blue Devils on Saturday vs. UConn. Duke is 3-0 ahead of a trip to Middle Tennessee next week. Bowl eligibility isn’t likely, but it’s not impossible, either.

12. SMU (Previously 13)

SMU moves up a spot on its bye week. That’s mostly due to other teams in this area losing or looking bad, but I’ll also give the Mustangs some credit for picking a lane. Rhett Lashlee announced earlier this week that Kevin Jennings will be the starting quarterback moving forward.

11. Virginia Tech (Previously: 10)

Virginia Tech finally gets a win in Norfolk! Congrats to the Hokies and Brent Pry. Still not sure this team is very good, though.

10. Boston College (Previously: 9)

Tough, hard-fought loss for Boston College in Columbia on Saturday. I think that Mizzou team is really good, so BC testing the Tigers like that on the road is very impressive. I have Boston College ranked 10th, but the margins are thin here. I think this team can hang with anyone in the ACC with the exception of maybe Miami.

8. Georgia Tech (Previously: 7)

Georgia Tech crushed VMI this week to move to 3-1 on the year. Big test for the Yellow Jackets next weekend against Louisville on the road.

7. NC State (Previously: 4)

I’m officially worried about NC State. It certainly doesn’t help that Grayson McCall left the Wolfpack’s win over Louisiana Tech early with an injury. But with or without McCall, NC State has problems.

7. Cal (Previously: 8)

Cal smashed San Diego State 31-10 on Saturday night. Jaivian Thomas averaged almost 10 yards per carry and Fernando Mendoza had another strong game at quarterback. The Golden Bears have been very impressive so far this season and they’ll get a chance to move to 4-0 next week against Florida State.

6. Syracuse (Previously: 6)

Syracuse was off this week.

5. Pitt (Previously: 11)

I’m moving Pitt up the board aggressively this week following its win over West Virginia. The Panthers already have 2 power-conference wins this season. They both required some late-game heroics, but it’s still more than most teams in this league can say after Week 3. Eli Holstein has a good case as the second-best quarterback in this league behind Cam Ward.

4. Louisville (Previously: 5)

Louisville moves up a spot this week even though it was idle.

3. North Carolina (Previously: 3)

North Carolina officially moved to a 2-quarterback system on Saturday with Jacolby Criswell earning most of the snaps in a big win over North Carolina Central. That’s certainly a situation worth monitoring ahead of UNC’s Week 4 game against James Madison.

2. Clemson (Previously: 2)

Clemson retains the No. 2 spot after being idle in Week 2.

1. Miami (Previously: 1)

Miami crushed Ball State 62-0 on Saturday. Cam Ward threw for 5 more touchdowns. The Canes are very easily the class of the ACC at this point in the season.
