With a rivalry record that stands at 55-55-8, there have been many magical moments in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. Here are a few that are particularly memorable:

2013 The Prayer at Jordan-Hare
A play that seemed to unfold in slow motion is the most memorable in a 43-28 Auburn win over visiting Georgia. The 73-yard touchdown pass from QB Nick Marshall to WR Ricardo Louis happened as then-Georgia DB Tray Matthews, who has since transferred to Auburn and started seven games, and DB Josh Harvey-Clemons nearly intercepted or batted it down.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said this week that, “I hit my knees. My chest hit the ground. What in the world is going on?

Added Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, “I don’t know what I was still looking at because you were already upset that we had blown a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter.”

2007 Blackout game, Georgia wins 45-20
For the first time in the modern era, Georgia wore black jerseys as RB Knowshon Moreno ran for 100 yards for a fourth straight game and QB Matthew Stafford threw two TD passes.
“That was maybe first or second on the fun-meter for me,” Richt said after the game.

Richt plotted the uniform switch in part because Auburn had previously won 12 of 15 at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs added an element to the surprise when they wore traditional red uniforms in pre-game warmups.

Auburn QB Brandon Cox threw four interceptions in a game coach Tommy Tuberville said the Tigers were “confused” at times.

2004 Undefeated Auburn knocks out Georgia
A top-10 matchup quickly went toward the orange and blue as Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown helped the Tigers roll 24-6 en route to an undefeated season. Williams and Brown combined for 260 yards and a TD each. Auburn looked to impress poll voters as they were ranked behind Southern Cal and Oklahoma.

1996 Record-setting shootout
This game proved to have several storylines that resonate today. Georgia won 56-49 in the 100th meeting between the teams, which was also the first SEC game to go into overtime, and it went to four.

Auburn led 28-7 at halftime, but Georgia QB Mike Bobo hit Corey Allen for a 30-yard TD to force overtime. Georgia prevailed by stopping Auburn on fourth down. The iconic image remains of UGA V lunging at Auburn player Reggie Baker near the sideline.

1959 Dye, Tarkenton lead Georgia
Georgia QB Fran Tarkenton threw a last-second touchdown to Bill Heron to propel the Bulldogs to a 14-13 victory in a result aided by a fumble recovery for Georgia by future Auburn coach Pat Dye. Georgia was reportedly picked ninth in the SEC, while Auburn entered with a six-game winning streak in the series.
