LSU’s Board of Supervisors met on Friday, and one of the items on the agenda was offensive coordinator Cam Cameron’s proposed three-year contract extension.

According to NOLA.com’s Jim Kleinpeter, the board approved the deal, which will run through the 2018 season but includes a $300,000 pay cut this season. Cameron’s original deal was set to expire at the end of this month on March 31.

Cameron, who made $1.5 million in 2015, is scheduled to make $1.2 million in 2016, $1.25M in 2017 and $1.3M in 2018.

In terms of his buyout, Kleinpeter reports that it would be 50 percent of Cameron’s remaining salary if he departs to become a head coach within the SEC, and that same standard applies if he assumes a head role with another Division I school within a 500-mile radius.

However, it would only be 20 percent if he leaves LSU for an assistant coaching position.

Cameron just finished his third season as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator. After LSU finished dead last in the SEC in passing yards per game in 2014 (162.9), the team wasn’t much better last season in finishing 11th (179.8).

Those around the program are hoping to see LSU’s offense become more multi-dimensional this coming season.
