Coinciding with Alabama’s rise to its sixth straight top-ranked (nationally) recruiting class on National Signing Day was one of its recruiters rising to No. 1 in the Southeastern Conference.

With that, here were the top five recruiters (per 247Sports composite rankings) in the SEC for the 2016 recruiting cycle.

1. Bo Davis, defensive line coach, Alabama

Davis arguably had one of the best signing day weeks of any recruiter during the modern era of recruiting coverage. It started with Davis landing a pair of Mississippi prospects — defensive back Nigel Knott and offensive tackle Scott Lashley — then on signing day, he landed five-star in-state linebacker Ben Davis, four-star defensive end Terrell Hall (secondary recruiter) out of D.C. and JUCO defensive end Jamar King. The Magnolia State lands were particularly impressive considering it has been difficult for any program — including Alabama — to get top-level prospects out of Mississippi for last few cycles.

2. Rodney Garner, defensive line coach, Auburn

Garner, who has long been one of the top recruiters in the country, led an outstanding effort at his alma mater and was responsible for landing what is quite possibly the best defensive line class in the SEC. His big signing day land was five-star defensive tackle Derrick Brown, the No. 1 overall prospect in the Peach State for the 2016 recruiting cycle. Garner also landed five-star defensive end Marlon Davidson and four-star defensive tackle Antwaun Jackson (also out of Georgia), among others. He did all this even though Auburn lost three excellent recruiters, Will Muschamp, Lance Thompson and Travaris Robinson, to South Carolina where Muschamp was named the head coach.

3. Dameyune Craig, co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach, Auburn

Craig was instrumental in the Tigers landing one of the better groups of receivers in the 2016 cycle, including Kyle Davis, Nate Craig-Myers and Eli Stove. He also got Myers’ brother, cornerback Jayvaughn Myers, on signing day. Craig is outstanding at building relationships — the foundation of any good recruiting effort — and like Garner, also is an Auburn alumnus.

4. Bradley Dale Peveto, special teams coordinator, LSU

Peveto was the lead recruiter for five-star in-state defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence. He also did some damage in the state of Texas, landing four-star safety Eric Monroe and four-star defensive end Rahsaan Thornton. He got a very good kicker in Connor Culp out of Phoenix, Ariz., and sleeper in-state safety Cameron Lewis. It was a fantastic individual cycle for Peveto, a veteran college coach who has always had a great reputation for recruiting top talent.

5. Matt Luke, offensive line coach, Ole Miss

Luke was responsible for the Rebels landing one of the best offensive line classes in the country this cycle. He went out-of-state and grabbed five-star offensive tackle Greg Little, the top-ranked tackle prospect in the country, four-star Tennessee offensive tackle Bryce Matthews and flipped high-upside offensive tackle Royce Newman from Missouri out of the state of Illinois. Luke also kept four-star receiver DeKaylin Metcalf, from Oxford High, at home.
