Basketball fans who were able to stay up past midnight eastern time and into early Saturday morning were treated to an instant classic. With only :04 left, No. 4 seed Florida trailed No. 8 seed Wisconsin 83-81 in overtime. The Gators had time for one last shot, and it’s one Florida fans won’t forget for a long time.

It was only fitting that Chris Chiozza, affectionately nicknamed “Cheese,” was the man to sink the shot that knocked out Wisconsin. It wasn’t the first time this academic year that the Gators have faced what seemed like certain defeat in the final seconds and walked away with a win.

With the thrilling 84-83 victory, Florida became the third SEC team to make it to the Elite Eight. It’s the second time in history that the SEC has three teams make it that far, and the first time since 1986 (Auburn, Kentucky and LSU). The Big Ten is completely shut out at this point, while the ACC only has one team left (North Carolina).

If the Gators had not won, they might have blamed Kentucky coach John Calipari for jinxing them.

When Calipari was being interviewed, Florida was leading Wisconsin in regulation and looked to be on its way to a comfortable victory. The Badgers rallied late, forcing overtime by hitting a running three-pointer of their own with 2.1 seconds on the game clock.

By surviving Calipari’s potentially epic jinx, Florida is on its way to a matchup with No. 7 seed South Carolina. After upsetting No. 2 seed Duke to make it to the Sweet Sixteen, Frank Martin’s squad delivered another big upset, crushing No. 3 seed Baylor 70-50.

De’Aaron Fox’s 39 points led No. 2 seed Kentucky to an 86-75 win over the No. 3 seed UCLA Bruins. Stealing the spotlight from UCLA’s LaVar and Lonzo Ball only made the victory sweeter for Big Blue Nation.

The SEC is guaranteed a team in the Final Four, as the Gators and Gamecocks will be battling to win the East region. The conference could get two teams if Kentucky knocks off fellow blue blood No. 1 seed North Carolina to claim the Midwest region of the bracket. Both games will be on Sunday. Florida-South Carolina is set for a 2:20 p.m. ET tip. The Wildcats and Tar Heels will square off at 5:05 ET.
