Every outlet talks thoroughly about who the best SEC teams will be in 2015, but few are talking about the most interesting.

‘Interesting’ ranges from great teams with championship dreams to teams with head coaches who are on the hot seat. It runs the full gamut of potential teams. Of course there are the favorites: Alabama, Auburn and Georgia. Then there are the biggest dark-horse programs like Tennessee and Ole Miss.

Which team is the most interesting in 2015 and why?

Ethan Levine (@EthanLevineSDS): Tennessee

I can think of a reason why all 14 SEC teams can be considered the most interesting team in the SEC in 2015, so to answer this question I am going on the storylines that fascinate me most. Chief among those is how Tennessee will respond this year after closing last year with four wins in Joshua Dobbs five starts. The Vols are as talented as they’ve been since the end of the Phillip Fulmer era, and yet they’re also one of the youngest teams in the SEC. Many project Tennessee can contend for an SEC East title this season, but a lot of that hinges on Dobbs’ play under center. I’ll be watching to see how he starts the year, and more importantly how the young talent around him responds this fall.

Christopher Smith (@CSmithSDS): Tennessee

The Vols have risen steadily in Butch Jones’ first two seasons, continuing through a very strong ’15 recruiting class and a lot of realistic excitement around Tennessee football for the first time in many years. Greg McElroy of the SEC Network even said in November that UT could be the East Division favorite for 2015. That title will belong to Georgia, but for the first time in his tenure, Jones faces real pressure to win, and not just squeak into a mediocre bowl game. The Vols are very, very thin in several positions despite a rise in top-end talent, and probably are a year away from becoming a real contender. Transitioning from the “build” phase to the “win” phase isn’t easy. Team 119 will be interesting to watch.

Brad Crawford (@BCrawfordSDS): Mississippi State

Georgia and Auburn are the obvious choices here as the hyped favorites in each division, but my pick for the most interesting team is Mississippi State. Most have already written off the Bulldogs as a contender in the Western Division due to personnel losses (so the storyline goes), but based on what I’ve seen from a senior-ready Dak Prescott and talent within the front seven defensively, I’m not so sure Mississippi State won’t throw a wrench in the league race. Dan Mullen’s team has depth at wide receiver, running back and the offensive line should perform better than expected. Eight regular-season wins is likely the ceiling for this year’s team, but the Bulldogs are capable of knocking off several of the perceived SEC heavyweights.

Jon Cooper (@JonSDS): Arkansas

Everyone has an opinion on every SEC team for 2015. Folks love to talk about the Alabamas, LSUs, Auburns, Georgias and Tennessees of the SEC, but few are talking about the ultimate sleeper team in 2015. Now, I’ll admit, the brand of ball Arkansas plays isn’t exactly high-speed or exciting; rather, the Hogs are content with plugging away and boring teams to death, while defeating their will in the fourth quarter. To me, Arkansas is the biggest dark-horse in the wide-open SEC West. Everyone knows the talent Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Ole Miss has. Everyone is talking about MSU potentially falling after losing so many seniors, and Texas A&M has a few years before they are a bonafide powerhouse. Nobody knows what to think about Arkansas. That makes them the most interesting.

Brett Weisband (@WeisbandSDS): Mississippi State

The Bulldogs are going to be an interesting test case in the SEC. Is having the best quarterback in the conference going to be enough to overcome talent deficiency all over the rest of the team? Prescott is as good as any quarterback in college, and he’ll have some talent around him in the receiving corps, with guys like De’Runnya Wilson and Fred Ross. He’s going to be working with a lot of inexperience on the offensive side, and the defense is going to be missing just as many contributors from last year. We’re going to find out a lot about just how good Prescott is, as well as how good of a coach Dan Mullen is.
