Christmas is just days away, and recruiting has slowed due to the NCAA’s month-long dead period, there’s still plenty of work — and even more wishing — to be done.

Some of the nation’s elite prep prospects have yet to commit, with many doing so just after the new year in a bevy of all-star games.

With more commitments to come down the pipe, Saturday Down South puts together the wish list of currently uncommitted prospects SEC Eest schools would love to have.

Big gifts under the tree

Roquan Smith: A four-star linebacker from Montezuma, Ga., Smith — barring a surprise — is expected to sign with the home-state Bulldogs. New defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt has heavily recruited Smith to join his unit — and while Smith has official visits lined up with LSU, Ole Miss and Pac-12 UCLA next month — the 6-foot-2, 205-pound Macon County standout is believed to stay at home.

Marvell Tell: A native of Encino, Calif., Derek Mason’s Vanderbilt club is in the mix for Tell, a four-star safety. Though west coast clubs such as USC, Oregon and UCLA are making a play for Tell, the Commodores have gained traction in the race for the 6-foot-2, 175-pound defensive back. Mason offered Tell a scholarship last May, and Tell followed that up with an official visit to Nashville in September.

Jeffery Holland: The Jacksonville, Fla., native is sought-after by the Florida Gators. At 6-foot-2, 230-pounds, Holland is good at playing in space and moving east to west. It is believed his decision is down to Florida and SEC West counterpart Auburn. Gators defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin is expected to be retained on Jim McElwain’s staff, which could prove big in the recruitment of Holland.

Mark Fields: Fields is a talented defensive back whom South Carolina is high on. The Cornelius, N.C., native is being pursued by both the Gamecocks and their cross-state rival, Clemson. Fields decommited from South Carolina just a week ago, and is back on the market. Jeremy Pruitt and the Georgia Bulldogs are recruiting Fields, though it is still believed he’ll end up in Columbia. He has official visits set for Clemson and South Carolina next month.

Kyle Phillips: A long, athletic defensive end, Phillips is being courted by the home-state Tennessee Volunteers. His top five are all SEC programs, with Butch Jones’ Volunteers being the only Eastern Division team interested in the Nashville product. At 6-foot-4, 250-pounds, Phillips is ready to play at the next level right away. His commitment would be a huge holiday pickup for Tennessee.

Stocking Stuffers

Marcus Lewis: A native of Washington, D.C., Lewis is on the radars of a couple SEC East programs. While Miami (FL) is considered to be the favorite for his services, Lewis is being recruited by Kentucky and Georgia. The 6-foot-1 athlete took an official visit to Lexington nine days ago and came away impressed with what Mark Stoops is building in the Bluegrass State.

Chidi Valentine-Okeke: An in-state product, the Georgia Bulldogs are hot on the trail of the touted offensive lineman. At 6-foot-6, 305-pounds, Valentine-Okeke is a force in the trenches and could become the cornerstone for a Bulldogs offensive lineman losing a lot of veteran talent and leadership. While Georgia is considered to be the favorite, Alabama and Auburn have heated up the race for this four-star prospect’s services.

Devonaire Clarington: The Miami, Fla., native is a Tennessee target. A two-way player at tight end and defensive end, Clarington is a talent at 6-foot-5.5, 222-pounds. It is thought the four-star prospect’s top-two are Texas and Miami (FL), but Tennessee is making a late push with Zach Azzanni pitching the Booker T. Washington star on Knoxville.
