While many college basketball coaches spent their Friday denying wrongdoing in the Yahoo report that cited an FBI investigation about providing extra benefits for players, UConn football coach Randy Edsall went in a different direction.

Well, he did that more than once.

Edsall, who took over at UConn in 2017, first came out with this ominous tweet in response to the Yahoo report:

Edsall probably wasn’t the only person who thought that, but his following tweet was a bit different for someone in his position.

The UConn coach advocated for paying college football players because of how vast scouting departments have become in the sport:

It’s interesting because Edsall is a Group of 5 coach. It’s the Group of 5 programs who would likely have the steepest hill to climb if the NCAA did allow programs to #PayThePlayers.

Edsall’s tweet will certainly endear him to recruits, but not likely the NCAA.

It’ll be interesting to see if the NCAA has a direct response to Edsall’s interesting comment in the wake of the college basketball scandal.
