We watched Georgia struggle to beat division rival Tennessee, but hang on in crunch time.

Can 13th-ranked South Carolina do the same Saturday night against defending East champ Mizzou?

Playing their fourth SEC game of the season, the Gamecocks’ path to Atlanta is abundantly clear: win out and leave no doubt. Steve Spurrier’s team has recovered from an opening game loss to Texas A&M to stay above water in league play with victories over the Bulldogs and Vanderbilt, but still has issues to work out to be considered a legitimate title contender.

A win tonight against the Tigers would be South Carolina’s third straight over the East’s newest member. This year’s squad is still trying to establish an identity on defense, a unit that is seemingly holding the Gamecocks back from making real noise nationally.

Opportunities at marquee wins seem to come weekly in the SEC, but this one’s as close as a must-win as it gets for the Gamecocks who are still clinging to championship hopes.

Mizzou’s looking to rebound from a loss to Indiana that dropped the Tigers out of the Top 25 in its conference opener. Only a sophomore, Maty Mauk’s never had a signature win, but this would certainly qualify under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium.
