South Carolina’s offense has struggled this season, scoring 13, 14, 15 and 10 points through four games.

True freshman Brandon McIwain has taken over the quarterback position for the Gamecocks, but has struggled to lead the offense into the end zone.

However, McIlwain’s teammates are standing behind him. LB Bryson Allen-Williams told The State that he anticipates the freshman signal caller will get better with every week of experience he gains:

“In baseball, you strike out once, you can’t go up for the next at-bat thinking about a strikeout,” South Carolina linebacker Bryson Allen-Williams said. “I definitely think he’s going to move on. He’s going to improve this week.”

McIlwain’s teammates see the effort he puts in during practices and in games, so they’re willing to continue playing for him:

“He’s a freshman,” senior defensive end Darius English said. “He’s doing the best he can so we’re all behind him.”

McIlwain and the Gamecocks will face their toughest test of the season on Saturday as the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies come to Columbia.

Showing improvement in a game against a top team will certainly go a long way in McIlwain’s quest to endear himself to his teammates.
