Report: South Carolina has dismissed two former defensive starters

Defensive end David Johnson and defensive back Al Harris are no longer members of the South Carolina football team, according to a report from 247Sports.
The report surfaced on Saturday, and appears to be confirmed by a quote from Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp, which was acquired by John Whittle of The Big Spur:
“They are no longer part of the team,” South Carolina head coach Will Muschamp said. “We wish them the best.”
Harris appeared in 23 games during the last two seasons, accumulating 46 tackles. He is a former Freshman All-SEC selection.
Johnson had 20 tackles in 10 games last season.
According to the report, the Gamecocks appear to still be one player over the 85 scholarship limit even after the dismissal of Johnson and Harris.
Player turnover is often a painful part of a coaching transition, and it appears as though that story will be no different for South Carolina as it moves into the Muschamp era.
