Steve Spurrier said before this week’s Georgia game that he expected senior quarterback Dylan Thompson to have one of his career’s best outings.

Through two quarters, his prediction’s accurate.

Thompson thrown for 240 yards and three touchdown passes to lead the Gamecocks to a 24-13 lead at halftime over the fifth-ranked Bulldogs. On the game’s first drive, Thompson completed all four passes for 64 yards and a touchdown to gain early momentum.

“We’re giving him pretty good time and we’ve got to play another half like this,” Spurrier said.

On 11 touches, South Carolina’s held Todd Gurley to 44 total yards.

Missed opportunities have hurt the Bulldogs in the first half. Georgia’s had a lengthy touchdown run erased on a penalty, an interception negated on a defensive hold and missed a field goal.
