Shane Beamer and South Carolina are feeling the heat on social media after getting all they could handle from Old Dominion before coming away with a 23-19 win.

The Gamecocks program hasn’t shown much progress after an 8-5 campaign and a bowl appearance in 2022. After the season, Beamer’s contract was extended 2 years to 2027.

South Carolina followed it up with a 5-7 record in 2023, including a 3-5 SEC mark. And Saturday’s close call against the Monarchs is evidence that there’s still a long way to go despite the arrivals of celebrated quarterback recruit LaNorris Sellers and former Arkansas running back Rocket Sanders.

In his debut, Sellers was 10-of-23 for 114 yards passing but added 68 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries. Sanders had a decent evening (22 carries, 84 yards, and a touchdown).

The schedule doesn’t get easier: Kentucky is next for Week 2, followed by No. 13 LSU.

As you might expect, social media ripped Beamer and the Gamecocks program after barely beating the Monarchs. Here’s a sampling of the reaction:
