Javon Charleston will be lining up at a new position with a new jersey number this Saturday when South Carolina takes on Texas A&M.

The redshirt freshman announced his position change in a tweet Thursday afternoon:

Charleston, a walk-on member of the 2015 class from Gurnee, Ill., recorded four catches for 54 yards in the spring game, but coach Will Muschamp felt he was more needed in the secondary. For now, he’s back at wide receiver.

As a result of the position change, Charleston will wear No. 88. He previously wore No. 12 as a defensive back.

In other Gamecocks roster news, RB Rico Dowdle now shows as wearing No. 23 on the team’s online roster. He previously wore No. 21.
