Few coaches have left their mark on the SEC the way Steve Spurrier has. The winningest football coach in both Florida and South Carolina history, Spurrier’s legacy has been well established.

To honor the coach that led the Gamecocks to new heights, including the 2010 SEC East title, South Carolina officials have had initial discussions about recognizing Spurrier during a game at Williams-Brice Stadium this season, according to a report by The State.

“There is nothing set, but if something happens that they want to do that, it would be fine with me, probably,” Spurrier told The State. “You will have to check with them. All I can say is nothing has been set. If it happens, fine. If it doesn’t, that’s fine too.”

One possible date that would seem fitting would be Nov. 11, the Saturday that Florida travels to Columbia and plays South Carolina. While that makes sense given Spurrier’s past, assistant athletic director for media relations Steve Fink explained that no exact dates have been talked about.

“I’m not aware that any specific dates have been discussed,” Fink told The State in an email.

In his 11 seasons at South Carolina, Spurrier recorded an 86-49 record, including three consecutive 11-win seasons. He now works as a consultant for the Gators.
