Building stadiums isn’t cheap and maintaining stadiums apparently costs a pretty penny, too. After South Carolina’s garnet and black spring game, the playing surface at Williams-Brice Stadium began its makeover.

According to spursandfeathers.com, the makeover has an estimated cost of $995,000 and includes installation of a new drainage system in addition to irrigation and sod. The updates are expected to be completed before the Gamecocks’ home season-opener, which is slated to begin at 4 p.m. on Sept. 17 against East Carolina.

South Carolina went 3-9 overall in 2015 and were losers of its last five games after the bye week.
