After a suspension put him on the sidelines for the latter part of spring practice, Texas A&M wide receiver Speedy Noil is back with the team.

On Tuesday’s SEC West coaches conference call, Sumlin said that Noil “satisfied the things he needed to do” away from the field after earning a suspension for undisclosed reasons and is allowed to rejoin his Aggies teammates.

Noil, who put up 46 catches, 583 yards and five touchdowns as a freshman, is expected to be an even bigger threat as a sophomore as he steps up for departed senior Malcome Kennedy. His absence this spring was rendered less troublesome with the emergence of early enrollee freshman Christian Kirk, but the Aggies will still need Noil on the field for their passing attack to be fully functional this fall.

Sumlin also touched on his now-steady quarterback situation. Kyle Allen, who started the final five games of last season, was the only scholarship quarterback on campus this spring, and there was worry that five-star signee Kyler Murray would sign a lucrative contract to play professional baseball instead of pursuing a college football career.

Now, Murray has said he will be enrolling at A&M in June and will eschew the Major League Baseball draft, while the Aggies also secured a commitment from junior college passer Jake Hubernak, who put up huge numbers at Blinn College last fall. Both will enroll at Texas A&M this summer.

“We’re going to have two new guys in here starting June 2 to challenge (Allen), and he’s up for that,” Sumlin said on the conference call.

Sumlin added that he wouldn’t have recruited Murray as hard as he did if he thought the Allen, Texas native would pursue a baseball career.
