Texas A&M was unsuccessful in trying to lure away Texas’ defensive line coach, according to multiple reports.

Last Friday, it was reported that Aggies head coach Kevin Sumlin had reached out to Longhorns DL coach Brick Haley about joining his staff as the defensive tackles coach.

However, HornsDigest.com’s Chip Brown first reported this morning that Haley has turned down that offer.

Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods.com and Rivals.com, tweeted on Monday that Texas had matched its rivals’ offer for the 49-year-old assistant.

Haley is a good candidate to fill that kind of vacancy in the SEC, having spent plenty of time coaching in the conference. Before joining Texas in 2015, he spent six seasons as the defensive line coach at LSU.

He was also the defensive line coach at Mississippi State from 2004-06 and served as a graduate assistant at Arkansas in 1990.
