Without the offseason addition of Oklahoma graduate transfer Trevor Knight, the outlook of the season heading into 2016 could be vastly different for Texas A&M. After only a couple of months on campus, Knight quickly won over his team and coaches and was named the team’s starting quarterback exiting spring football.

Knight was also chosen as one of three Aggies to represent the team at the latest SEC Media Days.

However, according to Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports, Knight has not only won over the Aggie brass for his solid spring performance but his off the charts leadership and off the field qualities. In fact, one Texas A&M assistant even went so far as to compare Knight to one of college football’s biggest stars in recent years.

“This is a mockable comment, but I’m going to put it out there and you tell me what you think,” Feldman said on The Audible podcast. “One of the guys on (the A&M) staff told me, ‘You know, when I see Trevor Knight and how the team responds to him and what he’s like in the locker room, I kind of think, that’s probably what Tim Tebow was like (at Florida). Just in terms of this aura he has, that guys respond to him. He’s very clean-cut, he does a lot of charity work off the field. That’s one of the vibes they get.”

Thanks in part to Tebow’s bravado and leadership, Florida won two national and two SEC championships during his four-year Gator career. While Knight has never put together a year anything close to what Tebow was able to do on the field, if the Aggie quarterback has helped stabilize the A&M offense and unify the entire team together toward a common goal, a roster full of extremely talented players may finally come together and compete for the SEC title this season.

That narrative isn’t so far fetched, at least according to one A&M assistant.
