Florida week is finally here for Tennessee, and for most Vols fans that are still sore from the Week 2 double-overtime loss to Oklahoma, it couldn’t get here soon enough.

But if the Vols are going to beat the Gators for the first time since 2004, and do it in The Swamp, it is going to take a solid game plan, some good fortune and an extraordinary effort from a handful of players.

Here are five impact players to watch as Tennessee tries to win at Florida on Saturday for the first time in more than a decade (in no particular order):

1. Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs – It seems pretty simple to say that the starting quarterback should be an impact player, but what we’re most concerned about seeing from Dobbs is a return to extended plays with his feet and taking chances down the field. If the Vols are finally going to take down the Gators and their vaunted defense, it’s going to take an all-around effort from Dobbs: making smart decisions to take care of the football, having a feel for the right time to tuck the ball and run, as well as knowing when the time is right to take a shot down the field to keep the Florida defense honest.

2. Tennessee RB Alvin Kamara – We know exactly what to expect from workhorse RB Jalen Hurd, but we’re still not quite sure what to expect from Kamara on a week-to-week basis. He has wowed us in the early going with a 144-yard, two-touchdown performance against Bowling Green, but then disappeared into the shadows as a runner with just 11 carries for 51 yards in the next two games. The Vols need more the first Kamara to be a truly explosive offense, and the Florida game would be a great time for him to reemerge as a play-making threat.

3. Tennessee WR Preston Williams – Did you know that no Vols receiver has reached the 100-yard mark for the season through three games? Did you know that Williams’ three catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns against Western Carolina lat week were his first stats of the year, and that they catapulted him to the top of the Vols receiving yardage and touchdown receptions leaderboard? My point is: the Vols have a crop of talented wide receivers that aren’t being productive. There’s no reason this 6-foot-4 playmaker can’t take the reins as a go-to option in his freshman season.

4. Tennessee S LaDarrell McNeil – Now here’s a feel-good story waiting to happen. McNeil, who is one of the most experienced football players in the SEC, was thought to be done with football for a significant period of time, perhaps forever, due to an injury to his neck in the preseason. But after hard work and medical clearance, the senior returned to the field at Neyland Stadium last week, making an interception against Western Carolina in his season debut. If McNeil is able to return to his role as an every-down safety against Florida, it’s a huge boost to the Vols both in morale and on-field talent. He has the ability to make a huge impact on Saturday.

5. Tennessee DT Danny O’Brien – This is the wildcard of the weekend for the Vols. O’Brien made what coach Butch Jones classified as a “poor decision” that led to a suspension causing O’Brien to miss the last two games. Jones reinstated O’Brien on Monday, making him available for the Vols on Saturday. If nothing else, he should add depth to a group of big-bodied, but inexperienced defensive linemen as the Vols make their first trip into a hostile environment this season.
