Though the Tennessee offense has now gone 14-straight quarters without scoring a touchdown, the defense scored on a pick-six during a 45-7 loss to Alabama on Saturday afternoon.

However, the moment quickly soured, as redshirt junior DB Rashaan Gaulden gave a double middle finger salute to Alabama fans after the touchdown.

Gaulden apologized for his actions after the game, and coach Butch Jones also weighed in on the incident, which drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty:

What punishment Gaulden receives remains to be seen, but it was definitely an unnecessary gesture, especially as the Vols were still getting blown out.

Things are a mess at Tennessee right now, and lapses in judgement like Gaulden’s won’t help Jones keep his job.

Tennessee travels to Lexington next week to take on the Kentucky Wildcats. Whether Gaulden plays (and whether Jones is still around to coach) remains to be seen.
