The No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers went into Lexington on Saturday night and left with their first SEC loss. It was a lopsided one, too, as they fell 83-69 to the No. 5 Kentucky Wildcats.

After the game, no one in the visiting locker room was very happy — not coach Rick Barnes, and not star players Grant Williams and Admiral Schofield.

In fact, Williams called the Vols soft, saying the team got dominated by the Wildcats physically (via 247Sports):

Grant Williams said the Vols “were soft.” “They out-physicaled us tonight,” Williams said. “That’s not our identity. We have always been the tougher team. For that to happen, it shows we were phonies tonight.”

Schofield agreed with his friend and teammate, saying the Vols got a good, old-fashioned butt-kicking on Saturday night:

“Honestly, they just kicked our butt,” Schofield said. “That is what it is. We weren’t as physical. You know what, it’s part of the game.”

The Vols have a chance to get back on track on Tuesday night. Then, though, a trip to Baton Rouge looms large on Saturday night. LSU is tied with the Vols for first in the SEC standings now, so that game is huge for both squads.
