Cinderella is alive and well.

The No. 11 seed Loyola-Chicago Ramblers upset the Tennessee Volunteers 63-62 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday evening.

With the Vols leading 62-61, Loyola junior guard Clayton Custer hit the game-winning shot to send the Ramblers to the Sweet 16.

Here’s the replay:

Things just started off bad for Tennessee as the Vols announced that starter Kyle Alexander would be replaced by John Fulkerson. Alexander was injured in the Vols’ opening-round game against Wright State. And things never really go better from there until really late in the game.

The Vols were down 60-51 with 3:25 left in the game, and then, the comeback started. Tennessee eventually got its first lead 62-61 behind Grant Williams’ three-point play. Then, the unthinkable game-winning shot happened for Loyola.

Just one Loyola starter finished in double figures — Custer. Its leading scorer came off the bench. Senior forward Aundre Jackson led the Ramblers with 16 points and four rebounds, including 6-6 free throws.

Admiral Schofield led the Vols with 14 points, but he got into foul trouble in the second half. That certainly had an impact on the finish. Williams, the SEC’s Player of the Year, finished with 12 points.

Tennessee was supposed to be the bigger and more physical team. Loyola out-rebounded Tennessee 27-24 and had a major free throw advantage, 16 attempts versus six attempts.

The Ramblers advance to the Sweet 16 to face the winner of Nevada and Cincinnati.
