Former Tennessee AD John Currie’s tenure in Knoxville didn’t end well, as he was relieved of his duties during this year’s lengthy coaching search.

Now, he has resurfaced and is back in the Big 12 — a conference the former Kansas State AD is quite familiar with.

According to the Austin Statesman, Currie has been hired by Texas to be a consultant on the university’s major capital campaign:

Currie has been hired by Texas as a consultant on the school’s major capital campaign, something he’s doing with a number of schools. He’s also been to Georgia Southern and South Carolina. “I have tremendous respect for John and what he did at Kansas State and for his entire career,” (Texas AD Chris) Del Conte said. “What he did at Kansas State was phenomenal.”

Currie drew a lot of vitriol from Tennessee fans during the failed coaching search and was eventually replaced by Phillip Fulmer.

He’s now back at a major university — albeit not in a sports capacity at the moment — so we’ll see what the future holds for him.
