Tennessee baseball reeled in a commitment on Saturday, as 2026 infielder Landon Thome pledged to Tony Vitello and the Volunteers.

Thome announced the news via a post on X:

If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Landon Thome is the son of Hall of Famer Jim Thome, who played for seven teams during his decorated career, most notably for the club now known as the Cleveland Guardians, Philadelphia Phillies, and Chicago White Sox. Jim Thome was a 5-time All-Star and is No. 8 on the career home run chart with 612.

Landon Thome, who attends Nazareth Academy in the Chicago area, is a 6-foot, 170-pounder that plays shortstop, second base, and — like his famous father — first base. He is the 13th player to commit to the Vols out of the 2026 class.

It’s obviously too early to tell if Thome will mirror the success that his father enjoyed, but if he’s even half as talented, the Vols will have landed themselves quite a player.
