Many NFL scouts believe that former Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs lacks the accuracy to be a quarterback in the NFL. Without being able to consistently put the ball where he wants it, Dobbs is projected to be a Day 3 (rounds four through seven) pick in April’s draft.

That doesn’t mean there are no positives to Dobbs’s game, though. His physicality and athleticism drew praise, as did his knowledge of the game.

In fact, one NFC personnel director told NFL.com that he was impressed with Dobbs from a mental perspective, as the ex-Volunteer dazzled in his interviews:

“I knew he was really smart, but I thought he really did a great job in his (NFL Scouting Combine) interviews,” the anonymous source said. “He had a great feel for offensive concepts and could walk you through everything you wanted to see on the board. Accuracy is his issue; it’s definitely not football intelligence.”

Whether his intelligence is enough to keep him around in the NFL remains to be seen, but it’s likely someone will take a chance on the Tennessee star.

Whoever does end up selecting him (or signing him as an undrafted free agent in a worst-case scenario for Dobbs), is getting a true student of the game.
