Tennessee’s impressive 51-year NFL draft streak ended on Saturday after defensive back Justin Coleman went undrafted on the third and final day.
The Vols previously had a player drafted every year since 1963, the seventh-longest active streak in college football.
Coleman, a three-year starter in Knoxville, intercepted a team-best four passes as a senior last fall and was projected by most as a late-rounder. At the NFL Combine, Coleman impressed scouts with a 37.5-inch vertical and was the SEC’s fourth-fastest defensive back with a 4.53 time in the 40-yard dash.
Coleman wrote an open letter to Vol Nation on Wednesday evening from his Twitter account, thanking Tennessee fans for their support during his career:
Thanks to all who helped me get to where I am today. Looking forward to what the future holds @Vol_Football #VFL pic.twitter.com/HKex0eCa3N
